Abstract
353,314. Gathering signatures. POLLAK, J. E., 20, Holborn, London,.- (Brehmer, Geb. ; Plagwitz, Leipsic, Germany.) Sept. 17, 1930, No. 27767. [Class 100 (i).] In automatic means for opening out folded signatures as they are fed to the sheet carrier 11 of a signature-handling machine, such means comprising inversely-rotating suction rolls as described in Specification 352,722, cross currents of air are directed over the apex of the carrier 11 against the inner pages of a signature, during its travel between the suction rolls, by air nozzles or blowers 13, 13<1>. This ensures even division of the pages. The nozzles are obliquely, and preferably adjustably, positioned, and one or more pairs of nozzles may be provided. The supply of air to each nozzle may be separately controlled so that one or both nozzles of a pair may be put out of action.
