Abstract

352,535. Fracturing artificial silk and other endless fibres during drawing. DASSONVILLE, M., 8, Rue d'Aboukir, Paris. April 11, 1930, No. 11500. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1929. [Classes 120 (i), 120 (ii), and 120 (iii).] In a process of drafting slivers of endless textile fibres the slivers are passed between feed and delivery roller points so heavily weighted that the pressure and pull exerted on the fibres overcome their natural elasticity. The term endless fibre is used to indicate any material which has been formed in a continuous and desired length, e.g. artificial silk or the materials produced by the processes described in Specifications 263,727 and 336,763, [both in Class 120 (iii), Yarns &c.]. The slivers are passed through a drafting apparatus comprising feedrollers 2 and delivery rollers 13<1> both weighted sufficiently to effect the necessary tearing of the fibres. The feed-rollers 2 are loaded by a weight 7 adjustable on a lever 7a which is supported by a knife-edge 3 on a spindle 9 attached to the hook 10 of the weighting saddle 1. The delivery rollers 13<1> are similarly loaded by a saddle 13 through the lever 15. Nuts 11 adjustable on the spindle 9 are provided to allow the weighting system to rest on a bracket 16 when the feed-rollers are dismounted.
