[Class 80 (iv).] In guards for box corner-staying and other machines of the press type, the moving tool e is enclosed by side guards d and a front guard f mounted on a gravity slide, which comprises guided rods c and is lifted by an arm l on a rockshaft m operated by an arm n and cam o on the machine shaft r. The machine preferably stops with the tool e below its highest position, and on starting it by withdrawing a stop (not shown) from a nose on the usual declutching-member q, the slide drops while the tool is still rising. If the guards are obstructed by the operative's hand &c., an arm p on the rockshaft stays in the path of the nose on the part q, so stopping the machine. The front guard f may be carried by a slide block j connected by a link k to move with an arm i for adjusting the anvil g on its supports h.
