[Classes 80 (iii) and 80 (iv).] In order to give an adequately rapid motion to the guard e, e<1>, during the initial movement of a guillotine cutter b, a shaft l with adjustable arms j, k is interposed between the driving arm h and the shaft a by which the guard is moved. Links n, o, and arm g complete the connection. Both arms j, k, or only one, may be adjustable. Preferably the link o is pivoted to a vertically slidable rod q which is connected by a short link to the arm g. An additional intermediate shaft carrying a pair of adjustable arms may be fitted in some cases.
