Abstract
350,221. Controlling machinery guards. UDAL, J. P., 91, Oakfield Road, Selly Park, Birmingham. May 29, 1930, No. 16593. [Class 80 (iv).] The-guard for presses, stamps, hammers, &c., described in Specification 214,899, [Class 80 (iv), Mechanism &c.], is modified for use with large presses by pivoting the first lever system d on a cross-bar c in brackets a on the plunger b or like reciprocatory part, and connecting it, as by an arm f and constraining link g, to a stationary part h, while the second lever system j, carrying the handstriker l, is, as before, pivoted at i on the end of the first system, but is constrained by a link m swivel-jointed at n to one of the brackets a, so that the guard lies well above the working space o in its idle position, Fig. 2, and, on motion of the press, is bodily lowered and, during initial descent of the plunger, rapidly swung forward as shown in Fig. 3. The pairs of lever-arms d, j are interconnected by bars e, k.
