Abstract

557,098. Cutting-out presses. BOBST & FILS SOC. ANON., J. Oct. 9, 1941, No. 13056. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1940. [Class 31 (i)] In a platen press for cutting-out cardboard blanks in which the blanks are carried into operative position between a movable member 5 carrying the counterpart of a fixed cutting or other die 2 by means of gripper bars 6 on a chain 7 which is moved intermittently around the fixed member 1, the gripper bar 6 is raised into position to bring the blank into the plane of the die 2 by means of an angle iron 9 attached to the platen 3 which is raised by toggle mechanism. The bar 6 may also be raised by'cam mechanism independently of the iron 9. The member 5 is held in working position by means such as are described in Specification 557,127 of even date. Both the die members 2, 5 can be withdrawn laterally of the press to positions 2<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, through guides in lateral brackets 10 when the platen is fully open, and an indicating device may be provided to enable the operator to determine that the platen is open fully.
