352,153. Printing-machines. ADDRESSOGRAPH, Ltd., Grange Road, Willesden Green, London.-(Addressograph Ges.; 99, Ritterstrasse, Berlin.) May 9, 1930, No. 14384. [Class 100 (i).] Pile supports ; sheet-separators dropping-roller sheet-feeds.-In a sheet-feeding apparatus for addressing or other printing-machines, the sheets are fed from a pile 5 moved over a table 2 by a band 1 passing over rollers 3, 4, and the movement of the band 1 is controlled by the action of the separated sheet on a feeler 16 arranged near dropping-rollers 41, 42 which advance the separated sheet in cooperation with fixed rollers 37, 38. The top sheet of the pile is separated by friction discs 6, 7 on a shaft 8 carried by arms 9, 10 connected to arms 13, 14, which are oscillated by a connecting-rod 15 preferably linked to the printing arm of an addressing-machine, so that sheets are fed only when the printing mechanism of the machine is operated If the pile of sheets is well-advanced and the band 1 does not need to be operated, the front edge of the separated sheet reaches the feeler 16 in time to cause the feeler to depress a spring-controlled pivoted pawl 22, via a lever 20 and link 21, and cause the pawl to engage a tooth of a segmental lever 24 pivoted freely on the shaft 25 of the arm 13. This lever 24 is moved by a pin 26 on the arm 13 as this arm moves towards the pile, and the lever returns in a clockwise direction under the action of a spring 28. If the pile needs advancing, the oawl 22 fails to engage the lever 24, and a screw 31 on the lever actuates a lever 33 freely mounted on the shaft 25, and a pawl 34 thereon actuates a ratchet 35 to advance the band 1. The lever 33 returns under the action of a spring 36. The dropping rollers 41, 42 are mounted in oscillating arms, and the shaft of these arms carries a lever 44 which raises the separator discs 6, 7, and keeps clear of the advancing sheet as the discs 6, 7 return towards the pile for a further separating operation.
