Tripping-arrangements.-In connection with a device for feeding sheets to platen presses of the kind described in Specification 20149/04, a feeler mechanism is employed for checking the impression if a sheet is not fed to the feed table 16. While the sheet is on the table 16, it is acted on by a feeler 25 which acts to check the impression by means of a lever 50 in known manner if a sheet is not fed to tabled. This feeler is of light construction, and is caused to make its falling motion in part under spring action, and to complete it by gravity. The feeler 25 is on a shaft 26 provided with a lever 32 operated by a lever 33, link 34, lever 35, and cam 36 to raise the lever. When a roller k on lever 35 enters the depressed part of cam 36, the lever 33 moves in a clockwise direction to permit lever 32 to follow to it, and thus allow the feeler 25 to descend. It descends under the action of a spring-controlled lever 28 on an arm 27 on shaft 26 until a stop 39a meets the side of the machine frame. The arm 32 then follows the lever 33 under the action of gravity only, and while so moving the absence of a sheet is felt for, and the machine checked if the sheet is absent.
