Abstract
162,052. Chipperfield, W., and Roneo, Ltd. Jan. 19, 1920. Dropping-roller and like sheet feeds; sheetregistering devices.-Sheets are fed to a printing or like machine by mechanism of the kind in which intermittingly rotated rollers are separated while sheets are forwarded by hand or automatically between them and positioned against a spring- raised stop, which is depressed as the rollers come together to grip the sheet, the rollers being rotated only after the sheet is gripped and the stop depressed. According to the present invention, the various movements are controlled by a throw out lever 11 mounted on a shaft 18 on which the upper feed-roller is mounted, the lever 11 being normally pressed towards a printing-drum 1 by a spring 33. The upper feed-roller is geared to the lower one, which is mounted on a shaft 21 carried by spring- pressed arms 22, and in the position shown in Fig. 2 the feed-rollers are separated by the depression of the arms 22 by a roller 25 on one arm 11<b> of the lever 11 acting on a projection 24 of one arm 22. In this position of the lever 11, a spring-raised registering stop 28 is held in position to feed the sheets against, and the feed-rollers are inactive and do not rotate. This position is maintained so long as rollers 15, 15<a>, carried in a disc 14 mounted at the top of arm 11<a> of lever 11, are in contact with the raised portion 16 of a cam on the printing drum. When one of these rollers 15 enters the depressed portion of cam 16, the lever 11 moves sufficiently for a stop 32 on the arm 11 to depress the stop 28, and when the second roller 15a enters the depressed part of the lever, moves sufficiently to bring a gear-wheel 13 integral with the disc 14 into engagement with a gear 4, and the feed rollers are then driven by the gear 13 to advance the sheet and the disc 4 is rotated to carry the rollers 15, 15<a> away from the drum as shown in Fig. 3.
