Abstract
351,850. Illuminant enclosures. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Gordan, N. T. ; 135, Elmer Avenue, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 2, 1930, No. 29525. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1929. [Class 75 (ii).] In a lamp for projection, medical, or other purposes in which an inner envelope containing the source of light is surrounded by a heat-absorbing liquid contained in an outer envelope, cooling means are immersed in the liquid. The source of light may comprise a closely coiled tungsten filament 14 operating at a high temperature in a gas such as argon at substantial pressure, the liquid 30 may be clear tap water, distilled water, or a solution of copper chloride, and the envelopes 12, 13 may be made of glass, quartz, or other transparent material. The outer envelope may be frosted. The cooling means may comprise a tube 27 formed as a series of bends, Fig. 2, partly or completely surrounding the upper portion of the inner envelope 13, or as a spiral, Fig. 3, through which tap water, air, or other cooling medium is adapted to circulate. A flange 17 on the outer envelope 12 is clamped between two rubber or other flexible gaskets 18 and two metal rings 19, 20. The ring 20 is fastened to the socket 15 by means of a collar and yoke device 25, and carries a rubber or other flexible collar 22 which engages the neck of the inner envelope 13.
