Abstract
351,806. Folding paper. WINKLER, A. and DUNNEBIER, M., Neuwied, Germany. Aug. 18, 1930, No. 24651. Convention date, Aug. 19, 1929. [Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii).] Pile tables for sheet-feeds; sheet-separators.-In apparatus for separating a sheet from the bottom of a pile and simultaneously forming a fold therein, the pile 3, Fig. 1, is supported on an inclined plate 2, 21 having a gap therein wherein are situated suction separating and folding devices. The suction devices may consist of a suction roller or rollers, but, as shown, consist of a suction segment 5 on a rotating tubular member which is reduced in diameter over the non-suction part of its periphery. A plain roller 6 co-operates with the segment 5 to separate the sheet and form the fold. Axially arranged rows of holes 7 in the segment 5 communicate with the interior of the tubular member through which suction is applied from a suction pipe 18, Fig. 5. The gap in the plate 2, 2<1> is curved to receive the members 5, 6 and so that the rows of holes 7 come into operation successively as they leave the curved part of the plate 2. The folded sheet is received by a pair of high-speed 12, 13 rollers. To control the suction, the opening between the pipe 18 and the tubular member can be varied as regards extent and timing by means of a sleeve 16 situated between the pipe and member and adjustably connected to the pipe 18 by a setscrew. Slits 21, 22 are provided in the member and sleeve respectively, and by adjusting the sleeve and varying the overlays of the slits, the suction can be suitably controlled. If narrow paper sheets are being operated on, the holes 7 at the ends of the segment 5 are closed by an adjustable core member or an external covering slide. The positions of the segment 5 and the roller 6 may be the reverse of those shown, and the rollers may be replaced by a suction segment.
