Abstract

351,534. R÷ntgen ray apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13A, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. March 26, 1930, No. 9688. Convention date, April 5, 1929. [Class 98 (i).] An X-ray installation, for example of the portable kind, is supplied with electric energy from a generator coupled to one or more mechanically-driven road wheels of a vehicle turning clear of the ground. The current for energizing the generator may be drawn from a storage battery present on the vehicle for lighting &c. purposes, or from the dynamo for charging said battery. As shown in the Figure, one of the rear wheels 11 of a car 10 may be run up an incline 9 on a skid 7 until it rests on and drives a pair of rollers 8. The other rear wheel may rest on the ground or be similarly supported on loosely-rotating rollers. The A.C. generator 6 is coupled directly, or by gear wheels, belt, chain, or flexible shaft, to one of the rollers 8, and supplies the transformer 5 which energizes the X-ray tube 2. In a modification, the generator is combined with one of the rollers 8, its stator being surrounded by a rotor which is driven by the wheel 11. Motion of the vehicle may be prevented by props, or by braking the front wheel, or by anchoring the vehicle to the skid as by a steel wire, or by so mounting one of the rollers 8 that it may be raised vertically to prevent the wheel 11 from descending from the skid.
