Abstract

The Improved Dollycar or Mancar Battery Charging System (IDBCS) described is designed for use on man cars and dolly cars used for slope haulage in underground mining. The IDBCS system consists of a ring gear(3), adjustable mounting bracket(5), hydraulic pump(6), hydraulic motor(8) and alternator(9). The two piece ring gear(3) is mounted directly to one of the wheels of the rear bogie(1). The hydraulic pump(6) which is driven by the ring gear(3) is mounted to the bogie axle using the adjustable mounting bracket(5). This system is unique and innovative in that the parts ring gear(3), pinion(4), adjustable mounting bracket(5) and hydraulic pump(6) make a "gear drive and hydraulic pump assembly" which bolts or clamps onto the axle(12) of the bogie(1). This configuration allows for minimal or no modification to the existing bogie during installation. The hydraulic power generated by the rotation of the bogie wheels is transferred to the hydraulic motor(8) located in the cabin of the dolly car or man car using flexible hydraulic hoses. The alternator(9) is coupled to the hydraulic motor(8) which generates electricity for the on board electrics and/or charging the on board battery(s). The unique location of the alternator(9) within the cabin differs from existing designs that mount the alternator to the bogie underneath the cabin. This change in alternator location should result in improved service life and accessibility of all the IDBCS system components compared with existing designs. A gear drive mounted on the bogie transfers the rotational power of the bogie wheel to the hydraulic pump. HYDRAULIC PUMP The hydraluic pump, also mounted on the bogie, powers the hydraulic motor. HYDRAULIC MOTOR A hydraulic motor powers the alternator ALTE RN ATOR The alternator provides the dolly car or man car with electrical power to charge its battery Figure 2: Flowchart of the IDBCS

Description

AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT IMPROVED DOLLYCAR OR MANCAR BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to: Reliance Hexham Pty Ltd IMPROVED DOLLYCAR OR MANCAR BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM GENERAL DESCRIPTION & APPLICATION The Improved Dollycar or Mancar Battery Charging System (IDBCS) is an on board battery charging system invented for man cars and dolly cars used for slope haulage for underground mining. The IDBCS is a system that uses the rotation of the bogie wheel to generate electricity for running the onboard electrics and/or charging the on board battery(s). Refer to figure 1. SYSTEM CONFIGURATION The IDBCS possesses a unique configuration as shown in the flow chart (Figure 2). The configuration of the IDBCS includes a gear drive powered by a bogie wheel, a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic motor and an alternator. This system is unique and innovative in that it has a "gear drive and hydraulic pump assembly" which mounts directly onto an existing bogie with minimal or no modifications to the bogie (figures 4 & 5). This allows the alternator to be mounted in the cabin unlike other previous designs. ESSENTIAL FEATURES Referring to figures 3, 4 & 5, the IDBCS is comprised of a two piece ring gear(3) fastened directly onto one of the wheels(2) of the bogie(1). An adjustable mounting bracket(5) bolts or clamps onto the axle(12) of the bogie(1). This adjustable mounting bracket(5) provides a mounting point for the hydraulic pump(6). A pinion(4) is coupled onto the hydraulic pump(6). The adjustable mounting bracket(5) also maintains and adjusts the correct centre distance between the ring gear(3) and the pinion(4) for correct meshing of the gear teeth. The adjustable mounting bracket(5) can also be adjusted to de-mesh the ring gear(3) from the pinion(4). Motion from the bogie wheel(2) causes the ring gear(3) to turn the pinion(4) which turns the hydraulic pump(6). Hydraulic lines(7) carry the hydraulic power to the cabin where it is coupled to and drives the hydraulic motor(8). The hydraulic motor(8) is coupled to the alternator(9), also located in the cabin, which generates electricity for the on board electrics and/or charging the on board battery(s).

Claims (5)

1. A battery charging system comprising of a "gear drive and hydraulic pump assembly", mounted directly onto an existing bogie(1), which provides hydraulic power for a hydraulic motor to turn an alternator to generate electricity whereby the hydraulic motor and alternator are located inside the cabin of the Dollycar or Mancar.
2. A "gear drive and hydraulic pump assembly" (as in claims) comprising of an adjustable mounting bracket(5) which bolts or clamps directly onto the existing axle(12) of a bogie(1) for mounting the hydraulic pump(6) and pinion(4).
3. A "gear drive and hydraulic pump assembly" (as in claims 1 &2) comprising a two piece ring gear(3), which fastens directly onto one of the bogie wheels(2), which drives a pinion(4).
4. A "gear drive and hydraulic pump assembly" (as in claims 1, 2 &3) comprising an adjustable mounting bracket(5) which manually adjusts the meshing of the gears and can also de-mesh the gears.
5. A "Dollycar or Mancar battery charging system" including the "gear drive and hydraulic pump assembly" substantially as herein before described with reference to figures 1 to 5.
