Abstract
385,179. Auxiliary propelling- mechanism for cycles &c. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. April 25, 1932, No. 11836. Convention date, May 1, 1931. [Classes 79 (iii) and 136 (i).] A bicycle or other vehicle propelled by pedals, hand driving-mechanism, &c. is provided with light auxiliary electric driving means, e.g. a lead accumulator and an electric motor, in which the electric unit is of a small power sufficient to maintain a desired speed after such speed has been attained by muscular exertion. The power of the electric motor does not exceed 350 watts. The electric motor may be mounted at either of the points marked A, and the accumulator at either of the points marked B ; the accumulator is preferably mounted on springs 8 in two parts on either side of the rear wheel. The motor A drives the rear wheel through an endless belt 6 and a pulley bolted to the usual sprocket wheel, free-wheel mechanism being provided. The accumulator may be recharged through a rectifier mounted on the cycle, or from the motor driven as a generator when descending hills, &c. A cut-out for limiting the current strength may be provided. The electric equipment may be used for lighting and heating. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 5390/88, 10647/89, 18107/92, 14020/96, and 23890/98, [all in Class 79, Locomotives &c.].
