Abstract
351,473. Fuel pumps. FRISCH, A., Rebstein, St. Gallen, Switzerland. Jan. 9, 1930, No. 832. Convention date, Jan. 23, 1929. [Class 102 (i).] A combined pump and injector comprises a fuel-forcing member, means for restraining the member and means operated b the cylinder pressure for releasing the forcing member. The forcing member is also actuated by the pressure in the cylinder, the injection timing and the quantity of fuel supplied being separately adjustable. Fuel is admitted through a passage 14 having a non-return valve, to a chamber formed in the body 2 of the injector, below a fixed plunger 3. The injector 2 is forced upwards by the cylinder pressure to expel the charge of fuel below the plunger 3 when a predetermined pressure has been reached, the injector being temporarily restrained by a tumbler 8 and trigger 9 which are disengaged by the movement of spring-loaded relay plungers 4, 5 respectively, these being subjected to the cylinder pressure admitted through passages 10, 11. The spring loading on the trigger-actuating plunger 5 is adjustable by means of a screwed head 23. Springs return the injector, tumbler and trigger to their original engaged positions, a further fuel charge then entering the body of the injector. The quantity of fuel injected is determined by an adjustable stop 18, which limits the delivery stroke of the injector 2.
