Abstract

Azo dyes; azo dyes, forming on the material.-Azo dyes are made in substance or on a substratum, e.g. the fibre by coupling the diazo- or tetrazo-compound of an arylaminonaphthalene of the type <FORM:0351431/IV/1> wherein Y = hydrogen or an amino group, with a 2 : 3-oxynaphthoylarylamine. They yield colour lakes and give fast blue to blueish black shades on the fibre. When using the N-nitroso derivatives of the diazo components the nitroso group may be split off according to Specification 313,865, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]. In examples, (1) cotton impregnated with the 4-chloranilide is developed with tetrazotized bis-(41-aminophenyl)-2 : 6- or 2 : 7-naphthylenediamine (black), (2) cotton impregnated with the b -naphthylamide is developed with diazotized N-nitroso - 6 - phenylamino-(41-aminophenyl)-2-naphthylamine and the dyeing treated with sodium carbonate, soap and sodium sulphide (blueish black). Bis-(41aminophenyl)-2 : 6- and 2 : 7 naphthylenediamines are made from 2 : 6- or 2 : 7-dioxynaphthalene and p-phenylenediamine (2 mols) in presence of bisulphite. 6-Aminophenyl-(41-aminophenyl)-2-naphthylamine is made from 2-hydroxy-6-phenylaminonaphthalene, p-phenylenediamine and bisulphite or similarly from 6-phenylamino-2-naphthol-3-carboxylic acid whereby the carboxy group is split off.
