Abstract
<PICT:0351091/IV/1> Apparatus for the manufacture of artificial filaments by dry-spinning comprises a cell of rectangular shape divided longitudinally into two chambers, viz. a heating chamber, which may occupy a portion only of the length of the cell, and a spinning chamber, which may contain more than one spinning die; the gaseous atmosphere passes through the heating chamber and then into the spinning chamber, in which it travels downwardly in the same direction as the filaments and from which it is withdrawn through a small chamber into a main common to all the cells, and thence to a solvent-recovery plant. As shown, the cell is divided into chambers a, b, the chamber a having heating tubes 2 or electric heaters. The gaseous atmosphere enters at 1, travels up the chamber a, enters the spinning chamber b at 3, and travels down the chamber b in the same direction as the filaments extruded from a die 4. The gas is withdrawn into a common main through an outlet 10, the size of which can be varied by means of interchangeable perforated diaphragms. The filaments pass under a polished circular bar 8 to the outlet 9. Access to the cell is obtained through doors 5, 11, 14, 15. Suitable cell dimensions are stated. A modified construction is described in which the bar 8 is placed at the upper edge of the outlet 9. The Provisional Specification states that the gas may pass up the spinning chamber.
