Abstract

349,505. Feeding webs. CLINE, A. J., 111, West Washington Street, Chicago, U.S.A. Feb. 25, 1930, No. 6290. [Class 100 (i).] A braking-device for the supply roll of a printing or other machine comprises one or more belts engaging the roll surface, anchored at one end and connected at the other end to a floating roller subjected to a downward pull by the tension of the web and to a counteracting upward pull by means of a weight. The pressure of the belts on the rod is thus regulated automatically in accordance with the varying tension in the web. The belts 36 are connected at their lower ends to spring- pressed bolts 42 mounted in fixed brackets 37, and at their upper ends to a rod 48 carried by arms 49 rigid with blocks 31 slidably mounted in fixed guides 29. Arms 51 also fixed to the blocks 31 are connected together by a cross-rod 52 to which is attached a cable 54 passing over pulleys 55, 58 and carrying a weight 62. The blocks 31 carry a floating roller 32 over which the web 33 passes to the press. Movements of the roller 32 due to varying tension in the web thus cause compensating variations in the pressure of the belts on the roll
