Abstract

1357758 Laminates HENRY SIMON Ltd 6 Nov 1972 [17 Aug 1971] 38438/71 Heading B5N Apparatus for supplying heat and pressure to a corrugated paper board W comprises steam heated chests 12 for supporting a web of the board as it is drawn thereover, an endless belt 13 whose lower flight overlies the web as it is drawn over the heated chests, a plurality of freely rotatable transversely extending parallel longitudinally spaced rolls 17 engaging the upper surface of the lower flight of the belt, the rolls being present in one or more groups thereof each containing a plurality of mutually adjacent rolls, all the rolls of each group being carried by a common supporting frame structure 20, and resilient means acting on the rolls of each group which are capable of adjustment to vary the effective weight of each of the rolls of the group together on the belt. In the pulling section the web is gripped between belts 13 and 14 which are urged into pressurized engagement therewith by rollers 15 and 16. Each of the rolls 17 may be of light hollow construction and may be mounted on stub axles at opposed ends, the axles being located in slots in frame 20 and springs being secured in each slot to urge its associated roll downwardly, the effective weight of the rolls against the belt being adjusted by varying the height of frame 20 which may also be supported on resilient spring means. Alternatively the rolls may be journalled in bearings rigidly secured to the opposed frame members, the frame members being supported by adjustable resilient means which urge them and the rolls downwardly. In a further alternative arrangement rolls 17 may be of heavy construction and may be journalled in bearings rigidly secured to opposed frame members which are supported by adjustable resilient means which apply an upward force thereto and to the rolls. Temperature sensing device 28 may be provided so that the resilient means may be adjusted automatically to vary the effective weight of the rolls. Alternatively the resilient means may be adjusted automatically to vary the effective weight of the rolls in response to the speed at which the web is passed over the heated chests 12.
