Abstract

375,911. Feeding webs. HOE & CO., Ltd., R., 109, Borough Road, London.- (Hoe & Co., Inc., R. ; 138th Street, New York, U.S.A.) April 14, 1931, No. 11048. [Class 100 (i).] The running and spare web rolls R, S are mounted in arms 8, 11 pivoted at their upper ends 12, 13 to a frame beneath the printing units. The arms are rotated. bv threaded spindles 39 engaging nuts 40 and operated by hand-wheels 41. The rolls are moved into loading position on a truck 119 running on rails 121 on, a second truck 122 running on sunken rails 123. The rolls are attached to the arms by an expanding chuck comprising a split sleeve 46 engaging the core 49 and expanded by a tapered rod 45 operated by a screw 52 rotated by a wrench 55. A tapered sleeve 56 is provided with a recess 58 engaged by an arm 60 which can be adjusted by a hand-wheel 65 for effecting marginal adjustment. The web is fed at press speed by belts supported by arms 75 pivoted on shafts 12, 13, i.e. concentric with the roll supporting arms. Pulleys 73 are fitted to the lower ends of the arms 75, and the upper pulleys; are driven through gearing from a shaft running at press speed, clutches being provided to enable belt to be stopped during loading. The tension of the belts may be adjusted. The roll supporting arms and associated parts and the feeding belts are mounted in brackets which may be adjusted transversely of the press to accommodate webs of different widths.
