349,407. Adjusting bearings. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland.-(Assignees of Ferguson, G.; 15, Dunklerstraat, The Hague.) Sept. 23, 1930, No. 28388. Convention date, Oct. 19, 1929. Addition to 279,398, [Class 12 (i), Bearings &c.]. [Class 12 (i).] In engines of the kind described in the parent Specification the auxiliary, inner supporting members which transmit the compression stresses from the cylinder to the crankshaft bearings are adjusted by pairs of co-operating wedges controlled by single adjusting devices associated with each bearing. The crank shaft 1 is mounted in bearings 2, 3, the bearing 2 resting in a support 4. Arranged between the cap 5 and a member 14 carried by the frame 6 are supporting members each comprising cooperating wedges 9 .. 12 through which the compression stresses are transmitted. The wedges are simultaneously adjusted by a nut 13 on a transverse shaft. In a modification, the lower surfaces of the bottom wedges are part cylindrical or part spherical. In a further modification the adjusting shaft engages the lowed wedges instead of the upper wedges. The force applied to the cap is parallel to the axis of the cylinder.
