Abstract

348,524. Coupling rotary-pump parts to shafts. EYSTON, G. E. T., 329, High Holborn, London. Feb. 5, 1930, No. 3947. [Class 80 (ii).] ] A pump piston body rotates in company with I an external drum, shell, or rings mounted concentrically in an outer fixed cylindrical casing, the drum &c. and piston body having a driving connection in the form of a floating ring. In the pump shown, the rotor d is directly driven and has a pair of opposite radial arms s on one or both stub shafts, while one or each end of the drum n carries projections t, and a floating ring v, Fig. 4, engages these arms and projections by grooves w, x. The driving parts may be located in compartments z sealed off from the pumping- space or in the pumping-space or in an end cover. Each ring may be balanced, and the rings may be balanced as a whole by being spaced 90‹ apart. Lubricant is supplied through passages in the stubs. In a modification, the drum is primarily driven, and the rotor driven from it by rings &c. located within the ends of the rotor. Further, the rings are constrained by engagement of their interiors y with extensions of the stubs in the end covers, arranged to give rolling contact as described in Specification 320,398, [Class 110 (ii), Rotary engines &c.], which also describes a crank-shaft control also applicable. Specifications 279,141, 327,119 [both in Class 110 (ii), Rotary engines &c.], and 338,546, [Class 8 (i), Air and gases, Compressing &c.], also are referred to.
