Abstract

348,230. Ornamenting. ASHWORTH, B., 14, Castle Street, Liverpool. Nov. 1, 1930, No. 5351. Drawings to Specification. [Class 93.] Decorative patterns in low or high relief are produced on walls, panels, &c., by applying a stencil plate, filling the stencil apertures with plastic material, which is finished off flush with the surface of the plate, placing a second stencil upon the first one with its apertures within the outline of the design applied thereby, and filling in the apertures and finishing off as before: if desired, further stencils may be superimposed. The apertures of the stencil may be bevelled or undercut so that the stencil may be removed without disturbing the outlines of the design. Before or after removal of the stencil plate, the face of the design may be rolled with a roller having a plain surface ; or, to produce a grained effect, the roller may be mottled, indented, or serrated. The stencil may be made of metal, millboard, rubber, plywood, or like material; millboard or plywood stencils may be treated with shellac varnish to prevent absorption of the plastic material thereby. The plastic material may consist of paint, magnesite composition, plaster, or cement; and it may be selfcoloured, or colour may be applied thereto.
