Abstract

In the production of alkoxyaldehydes by the partial hydrolysis of alkoxy acetals as described in the parent Specification, the alkoxyaldehyde is separated rapidly in the form of vapour, for instance by running the reaction mixture into a fractionating column charged with water and steam, or by dropping it into boiling water connected with the fractionating column. The extent of the hydrolysis may be controlled by adding an accelerating substance such as a strong acid, or a retarding substance such as caustic soda, sodium carbonate, or magnesium carbonate.
