347,996. Lenses. ZEISS, C., Carl- Zeiss-Strasse, Jena, Germany. Aug. 30, 1930, No. 25935. Convention date, Sept. 10, 1929. [Class 97 (i).] A photographic lens of the Cooke type corrected for spherical and chromatic aberrations, coma, and astigmatism comprises a divergent element III placed between two convergent elements II, IV and a further convergent element I in front of the said three elements, the refractive index of each of the convergent elements being less than 1À52 and the vertex length of the combination being greater than one third of the focal length. The nu-value of each convergent lens is greater than 63 and that of the divergent lens is less than 37À5. Numerical data are given for the example shown, having a focal length of 200 cm. and an aperture of 40 cm., this combination being suitable for astronomical purposes.
