Abstract
347,912. Applying crown corks in vacuo. BOUCHAGE HERMETICOS, 14, Boulevard Barbes, Paris. May 22, 1930, No. 15719. Convention date, May 30, 1929. [Class 125 (ii).] The vacuum stoppering machine of Specification 208,702, [Class 125 (ii), Bottles &c., Filling &c.] is modified for 'use with " crown" stoppers. The cylindrical part 2 is capable of sliding within the portion 1 which is fixed to the frame of the machine, packing 3 being provided to make the joint airtight. As a bottle &c. rises its neck enters the space 22 and the bodv of the bottle contacts with the resilient packing 23 and lifts the cylindrical portion 2 against spring action 28. Before the top of the " crown " cork bears upon the stationary head 14, the valve 34 is lifted to coactuate the stoppering chamber and the inside of the bottle &c. The " crown " cork then comes to rest against the head 14, and the plunger 6 is depressed, which bearing on the cross-piece 17, guided by mortises 16, depresses the metallic rings 18, 19, against spring action 12, the ring 19 bending the edge of the preformed cork into position under the head on the bottle &c. neck. With the return movement of the pedal 45, Fig. 2, the valve 34 will be closed and the valve 36, connected to the lever 55 by a stirrup 56, will be opened to admit air. The bottle &c. rest is descending meanwhile, and the bottle &c. may be withdrawn. The plunger 6, valves 34, 36 and bottle &c. rest 54 are moved by the lever system shown in Fig. 2, the rod 46 being keyed to the shaft 48 and acting through a cam arrangement 49, 50 to actuate the rest 54. The valves 34, 36 are held to their seats by the spring action of a common spring 38.
