May 15, 1930, No. 14984. Convention date, May 15, 1929. [Class 23.] Driving, suspending, balancing.-A centrifuge, spinning can or like apparatus rotating about a vertical axis is connected through a resilient member to the rigidly mounted vertical driving shaft. The spinning can x, Fig. 4, is supported by springs a, a<1> on the driving shaft y, these springs being used to damp out small oscillations of the can. More powerful springs b, b<1> are brought into action to damp out large oscillations. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 a resilient member d of rubber is employed and small oscillations are damped by the parts which form the driving connections. When the oscillations are large the rubber makes contact with the support at the points b, b<1> and this tends to damp the oscillations.
