347,335. Roads; paving blocks. MILLERS, J., 296, Kalker Hauptstrasse, Kalk, Cologne, Germany. Feb. 5, 1930, No. 3912. [Classes 87 (i) and 107.] A method of casting concrete road and like pavings in situ in blockshaped sections consists in casting each block against a block previously cast and against a removable mould which may have a face of sinuous or curved form. Each block (except the first) in each row, after the first row is cast, is moulded against the surface of the block previously cast in the row and against the surface at right-angles to it of a block in the row previously cast, the two remaining surfaces of the block being shaped by a temporary mould having two moulding surfaces at right-angles to each other. Before moulding a block, the adjacent faces of the previously-cast block are coated with an insulating layer of clay, tar, &c. to prevent adjoining blocks from adhering to each other. The sinuous-sided moulds form the blocks with curved sides, as shown, in order to provide an interlocking effect. The blocks may comprise an underportion of concrete containing gravel or ground slag and an upper portion of a coloured concrete.
