Abstract
345,598. Coating metals. POTTER, W. H., 121, Liverpool Road, Warrington, Lancashire. July 19, 1930, No. 21843. [Classes 72 and 82 (ii).] Ferrous metal articles such as wire or strip are conveyed in a heated condition into contact with nitrogen gas to nitrogenize their surfaces prior to coating them with zinc or an alloy thereof. The wire G is drawn through a vessel H containing a mixture of calcium cyanamide, sodium carbonate, and sodium chloride, floating on molten lead at a temperature of about 800 C. It then passes through acid, water and fluxing baths I, J, K respectively and finally through a molten zinc bath L.
