[Class 57.] In a winch for winding an aerial on aircraft of the kind provided with a centrifugal weight brake adapted to operate for one'direction of rotation only, the brake weights b<1>, b<2> are positively prevented from separating when rotation occurs in the other direction by the engagement of pins d<1>, d<2> mounted on them with the ends of slots e formed in a member c. The shaft x of the winch H drives the member c through gears u, v, and the member c drives the plate a carrying the weights b<1>, b<2> by means of a pin m depending into one of the apertures g<1>, g<2>. When the winch rotates in one direction, the pin m engages a certain point on the wall of an aperture and the pins d<1>, d<2> are in the openings f of the slots e. In consequence the weights are free to swing outwards about their pivots i<1>, i<2> into contact with the braking surface r. When the winch rotates in the opposite direction, the pin m engages a diametrically opposite point on the wall of the aperture, and in this position the pins d<1>, d<2> are within the slots e and the weights are prevented from moving.
