Abstract
569,382. Bollards. FLEMING, 1. R., and FLEMING, F. E. May 10, 1943, Nos. 7340 and 18366. [Class 78 (v)] In launching and shipping gear for suspended boats, both falls are bent round the same rotatable bollard or set of bollards, and brake means are provided for controlling the bollards. Fig. 3 shows two rotatable bollards 13, each mounted on a fixed vertical shaft 12 and having an upper extension 16 which forms a bearing surface for a brake-band 22. The two falls may be kept apart on the bollards by a medial dividing collar 28, or the bollards may have spiral grooves or a set of parallel grooves to receive the falls and the grooves may be of distorted U-shape. The upper ends 18 of the shafts 12 are connected by a cross-bar 19, the ends 21 of which may turn up to form belaying pins. On this bar 19 is pivoted a brake lever 25 to which are connected one end of each of the brake-bands 22, spring or weight biassing means being provided for the lever so that the brakes are normally on. When grooved bollards are provided with the falls extending between them in " figure eight " formation, one bollard has its grooves at levels different from those of the other bollard. The bollards may be geared together and may be carried by ball or roller bearings. Vertical bar or other guides may steer the falls into the grooves.
