Abstract

344,990. Screw propellers. GHIRARDI, L., 36, Via XX Settembre, Genoa, Italy. Jan. 8, 1930, No. 691. [Class 114.] A propeller is formed with a boss or body constituted by a primary body of revolution generated by a line of the second degree and provided on its surface with a blade or blades the intersection of which with a cylinder co-axial with the axis of rotation does not constitute a helix and the line of attachment of which to said primary body is constituted by a spiral on the surface of said body. The primary body of revolution 2 consisting. of a hemisphere of radius r is provided with a blade 17 attached to the body along a spiral 7, 8, 9 and at radii r<1>, r<11>, 4<111> the sections on concentric hemispheres are similar spirals 7<1>, 8<1>, 9<1>, 7<11,> 8<11>, 9<11>, 7<111>, 8<111>, 9<111>. Vanes 20 of less dimensions than the main blades 17 may be placed between them and whilst of similar form are opposite-handed for the purpose of directing water from the centre on to the main blades 17. The primary body may have slots or fluid engaging conduits. Specification 310,101, [Class 114, Ships &c., Propelling &c.], is referred to.
