Abstract

Nascent sulphur is produced by admixture of an alcoholic solution of salicylic or tartaric acid with an aqueous solution of sodium or other thiosulphate, it is stated to be of a molecular weight corresponding to S5 and S6 and to be spontaneously oxidized when heated in air to 60 DEG with production of sulphuric acid.ALSO:Remedies producing nascent sulphur for application to the skin comprise two solutions, to be mixed immediately before application or to be applied simultaneously, viz. (1) a solution in alcohol or other solvent of salicylic acid, tartaric acid, or any organic or inorganic acid or acid salt, with or without ether, turpentine or other ingredients and (2) an aqueous solution of sodium or other thiosulphate, or of any other organic or inorganic substance which will produce nascent sulphur when mixed with the acid solution, with or without glycerine, castor oil or other ingredients. The sulphur is stated to be of a molecular weight corresponding to S5 and S6, and to be spontaneously oxidized when heated in air to 60 DEG with production of sulphuric acid.
