Abstract
344,130. Loud-speakers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and OLIVER, D. A., of General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Jan. 8, 1930, No. 721. [Class 40 (iv).] Electric translating devices such as loud-speakers having a vibratory device comprising two or more elastic reed-like members of different natural frequencies, have elastic couplings between the reed-like members of such mass and elasticity as to improve the uniformity of the response. The Figure shows a reed 1, forming or carrying an armature for an electromagnet 6, and secured to a pillar 2 on the frame of a loud-speaker unit. A stiffer reed 3 of hollowed-out section is secured also to the pillar 2 and at its outer end is connected by a yoke 4 to a transverse spring 5 connected to the end of the reed 1. A screw and spring as shown enable the air gap to be adjusted, and a rod 7 passing through a central opening in the reed 3 connects the reed 1 to a cone or diaphragm.
