Abstract
344,096. Valve amplifying circuits. MIDGLEY, A. H., Fairfield, Harefield Road, Uxbridge, Middlesex. Dec. 14, 1929, No. 38396. [Class 40 (v).] In a thermionic amplifier or detector a single supply source H1, H2 furnishes both anode potential and grid-biasing potential, while the grids of the valves after the first are connected directly to a resistance connected between the negative terminal of the source and the plate of the preceding valve. The Figure shows resistances I, I1 shunted by condensers C1, C2 of low impedance at the marking frequency of the amplifier arranged to render the cathodes positive with regard to the negative terminal of the source so that the grid may be negatively biased. The impedance I3 for the last valve may be the field winding of a moving coil loud-speaker. By making the impedances in the cathode leads common to a pair of valves and by suitable choice of the nature of these impedances high or low frequencies may be accentuated or suppressed. Grid bias for the first valve may be obtained from potentiometer P and resistance K as shown or a resistance may be connected between the cathode and the potentiometer at a point of approximately the same potential as the cathode. The grid is biased from the potentiometer as previously.
