343,512. Kinematograph and sound record films. DOUGLASS, L. F., Valparaiso Avenue, Menlo Park, California, U.S.A. Nov. 15, 1929, No. 34940. [Class 97 (i).] Images on a kinematograph film are reduced in width by photographing through an anamorphotic system, and the space thus freed is used to accommodate a sound track ; the projected images are restored to normal proportions by projecting through an anamorphotic system. The field of view of the images may be wider than usual, and they may be taken by placing before the objective 2, a cylindrical plano-convex lens 3, and a cylindrical plano-concave lens 4. The images may be projected by means of a similar system in which the axes of the cylindrical lenses are turned through a right-angle about the projection axis. The images may, alternatively, be taken and projected with the aid of a spherical plano-concave lens 10 (placed before the objective 2 with its axis at approximately 45‹ to the axis of the objective.
