Abstract
342,269. Decorating sheet material ; lampshades &c. BROWN, J. E., 197, Preston Drove, and COOPER, E. C. H., 10, Regency Mews, both in Brighton. Oct. 28, 1929. No. 32619 [Class 93.]. A decorative effect is produced on transparent or translucent sheet material suitable for the manufacture of lamp-shades and similar articles by applying a thick coating of slow-drying varnish, and subjecting the coated surface to a high temperature for a short time to produce a wrinkled surface and then to a lower temperature for a longer period to dry and harden the coating. The material used may be paper, parchment, that sold under the registered Trade Mark "Cellophane," fabrics, or glass, and may be decorated either before or after the material is made up into the article. The varnish is applied to one or both sides by means of a brush, by spraying, or by dipping, the material is placed for from 5 to 10 minutes in an oven at a temperature of 300‹ F., and is then transferred to an oven at a temperature of 140‹ F., this temperature being maintained for eight hours. The articles may be coloured, or colour may be mixed with the varnish. Where "Cellophane" or other hygroscopic material is used, the material is dried out before applying the varnish.
