Abstract
342,095. Knitting ; circular knitting- machines. HEMPHILL CO., Central Falls, Rhode Island, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Lawson, R. H., Pawtucket, and Cloutier, A. N. ; Lonsdale, both in Rhode Island, U.S.A.) Dec. 31. 1929, No. 39858. Convention date, April 16. [Class 74 (ii).] To make lines, bands, blocks, dots, or other patterns in reverse plating of any required width, the sinkers, webholders or like instrumentalities are caused to bind the normally placed yarns on their forward edges 29. Thus reverse plating can be restricted to needles the sinkers &c. corresponding to which are moved transversely a distance in excess of that required for normal plating. Two yarns are fed in at differing tensions, the rear yarn NT of normal plating being fed without tension or with markedly less tension than the face yarn T. Each radial groove of the sinker cam bed contains a single sinker 5 or the like mounted above an independently sliding jack 6. Normal plating occurs so long as the butts 8 of the jacks ride in an outer groove 7 but when they are pushed inwards by suitable pattern mechanism so as to be taken in the groove 9 the shoulders 24 engage the ends 25 of the sinkers and push them inwards. As the needles descend, the yarns are reversed on the concave sloping shoulders of the selected needles. Fig. 11 shows a single needle stripe being made. The reversal is done on the side away from the knitting-point. Specifications 20101/09, 256,612, 279,813, 286,298 and 288,256, [all in Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.], are referred to.
