Abstract
342,071. Paddle wheels. LAMMEREN, W. P. VAN, 45D, Veursche Weg, Voorschoten, Holland. Dec. 10, 1929, No. 37820. [Class 114.] In paddle wheels of the type wherein the blades rotate on axes parallel to the main axis and at half the rate thereof, the feathering gear is constructed to give the blades an increasing positive angle of incidence during one-half of each revolution of the propeller and a decreasing negative angle during the other half of the revolution and there are means for controlling or regulating the increase or decrease. On an extension of an eccentric C on the main axis is mounted a slidable cam K comprising two end portions having substantially elliptical peripheries K2, K3 of which the major axes are at right-angles and a middle portion having a circular periphery K1. By sliding the cam axially alteration in the stroke of the feathering device is effected and by moving the cam angularly adjustment of the phase is obtained. The two operations may be effected jointly by using a helical tongue and groove N. Upon the cam roll the inner ends of the feathering rods F and at their outer ends the rods carry pinions E which mesh with pinions H fixed on the shafts of the main blades A, the wheels H having double the number of teeth of the wheels E.
