Abstract
The tensile strength, both wet and dry, of viscose fibres in the form of bundles particularly bundles of high total titre such as are referred to in Specification 311,399, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], is increased by passing the incompletely-coagulated fibres in the acid moist state on leaving the precipitation bath, through a heated water bath and simultaneously subjecting them to a tension as high as possible. The temperature of the bath may be 70-100 DEG C., the length of travel therein may be 2-12 metres, and the tension may be produced by passage over rods or rolls, or over a plurality of rollers running at different speeds. During passage through the hot water bath, conversion to cellulose hydrate is completed. The bundles are subsequently washed, desulphurized, bleached and finished. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to the stretching of the bundles of fibres without passage through the heated water bath, and also to stretching during a prolonged passage through the air. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
