Abstract
341,396. Frictional pocket igniters. BENEY, E. R., 3, Spenser Street, Victoria Street, London. Sept. 10, 1929, No. 27529. [Class 75 (iii).] A fuel reservoir 2 having a stopper 4 carrying a wick torch provided with a striking-pin is slidably mounted in a casing 1 so that it can be moved from the normal position, in which the stopper is located within the casing, to a position in which the stopper projects through an opening 6. The stopper can then be removed and the torch ignited by rubbing the striking-pin along a ferrocerium strip 11. In the form shown, the reservoir is moved upwardly against the action of a spring 13 by inserting a finger through an opening 14 in the casing, a spring latch 15 being adapted to engage a hole 16 in the casing and hold the reservoir with the stopper in the outer position. The latch 15 presses the reservoir against a grooved guide member 10 in which the strip 11 is mounted in register with a slot 12 in the casing. The torch may be inserted through an opening 17 in the member 10 for igniting a cigarette &c. inserted through the opening 14 or an opening 19 into the space 18 below the reservoir, suitable draught apertures being provided. In a modification, the spring is arranged between the base of the reservoir and the casing for moving the reservoir upwardly on releasing a spring latch.
