[Class 51 (ii).] A machine for charging annealing-furnaces comprises a wheeled support 57 adapted to be rocked about the axis of the wheels 55 by a rearwardlyextending arm 54, and is propelled and guided by a trolley 5 driven by an electric motor 4 and fitted with a vertically and horizontally adjustable member 6 to which the arm 54 is coupled. The trolley 5 has front driving wheels 1 and a rear steering wheel 2, the drive being transmitted from the motor 4 by gearing 8 .. 11 to a shaft 12 carrying pinions 13 which mesh with pinions 14 secured to the inner sides of the wheels 1. Handoperated clutches 15 are provided for controlling the drive. The coupling-member 6 is carried by a block 31 adapted to be traversed in curved horizontal guides 29 by a chain 32 passing round idle sprockets 33 and a sprocket 34 loosely mounted on a vertical shaft 35. The latter is driven from the shaft 12 through gearing 17, 18, 20, 36, a clutch 37, 38, operated by a handle 44 through a pivoted lever 40 and strap 39, being provided to connect the sprocket 34 in the drive when it is desired to adjust the member 6 horizontally. The gears 18, 20 are formed integral with a sleeve 22 which is looselv mounted on a shaft 19 and carries a clutch-member 23 adapted to be engaged, when vertical adjustment of the coupling 6 is necessary, by a hand-controlled member 24 to drive the shaft 19. The latter carries toothed quadrants 26 which effect, vertical movement of racks 27 secured to the ends of the guides 29.
