Abstract
For carrying out the dry spinning of artificial silk by the process in which the solvent carried by the filaments leaving the spinning nozzles is exchanged for a swelling agent for the purpose of causing <PICT:0341021/IV/1> the micell to be arranged as far as possible in one direction, there is used a spinning cell having at its upper portion in which the spinning nozzles D are situated, means such as a helical gutter R, open to the atmosphere of the cell, for passing through the latter a liquid the vapours of which act as a swelling agent. The cell is divided into a swelling chamber Q and a drying chamber T; and in order to avoid equalization of temperature in the two chambers, the latter may have a larger diameter or a screen B may be fitted between them. The drying chamber is provided with a heating jacket H, and with inlets and outlets L for drying air. The extent to which the atmosphere of the chamber Q is saturated with the vapour of the swelling agent is controlled by adjusting the temperature of the chamber or of the swelling agent liquid. The speed of the spooling device is so adjusted as to produce a stretching of the filaments, this stretching taking place in the chamber Q.
