Abstract
<PICT:0825344/IV (a)/1> A dry-spinning apparatus of the "closed circuit" type comprises a substantially vertical outer shell having a lateral opening at a level well spaced from both ends of the passage of a yarn and a drain at its lower end, a downwardly facing spinneret in the shell adjacent to its upper end, a tube within and substantially coaxial with the shell, its upper and lower ends being spaced from the upper and lower ends of the shell respectively and the tube being provided with an aperture at least sufficient for the free passage of a yarn opposite the lateral opening in the shell, means for heating a gas passing down the tube above the aperture, means for cooling a gas passing down the tube below the aperture, and yarn guide means so positioned that filaments formed in the apparatus may be drawn round it and out from the tube and shell through the said aperture and lateral opening after they have passed through the upper part of the tube. The heating and cooling means may comprise jackets for the passage of heating and cooling fluids, and the heating means may also heat the annular space between the upper portion of the tube and the shell. The aperture in the tube and the lateral opening in the shell may be approximately equidistant from the two ends of the shell. As shown, a shell 1 terminates in a cone 2 and drain 3, and has mounted at its upper end a spinneret mounting 4 and spinneret 5. Opposite the lateral opening 7 and tube aperture 6A is a yarn guide pin 6. A tube having upper and lower portions 8, 9 is provided with heating and cooling jackets 10, 11 respectively. In operation, the drag of the filaments 12 draws air down through the heated upper tube portion 8, and the air takes up solvent vapour from the filaments. The filaments are drawn aside at guide pin 6, but the solvent-laden air continues under its own momentum to the cooled lower tube portion 9, where it is cooled and at least part of the solvent vapour condenses. Condensate leaves via drain 3, and the air flows from the lower end of 9 into the annular space between the tube and the shell, is heated in the upper part of the annular space by jacket 10 and returns to the vicinity of the spinneret. Specification 605,612 and French Specification 658,700 are referred to.
