Drying materials in long lengths. - Artificial silk &c. to be sized and dried passes from a roller c over the sizing-roller E and the heated drying surfaces A, B which are inclined at an angle of substantially 30‹ to the horizontal. Reeds D, D<1> are provided on either side of the sizing-roller, and a reciprocating reed H is arranged at the exit end of the apparatus for distributing the silk uniformly over the roller K. Guide rollers F, G mounted upon vertically reciprocatable rods are provided for lowering and raising the threads into and out of contact with the drying surfaces when the rollers are started and stopped respectively.
