339,810. Smith, C. R. H. Dec. 23, 1929. Hoardings.-A hoarding for bill posting comprises a steel or iron framework and a posting surface of asbestos cement sheets. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, vertical end stanchions 1 and a centre stanchion 2, all of I-section, are connected by angle brackets to upper and lower horizontal bars 3 of similar section so that the front faces of the members 1 and 3 are coplanar, while the member 2 is set back. Light horizontal and vertical members 5, 6 are connected together and to the rest of the structure by angle brackets, and are arranged so that their front faces are coplanar with those of light angle bars 9, Fig. 3, mounted along the inner surfaces of the members 1 and 3 and forming a groove into which the asbestos cement sheets 10 fit at the top, bottom, and sides; the sheets are further secured to the members 5 by clips 11 to which they are bolted. To accommodate posters of various standard sizes, a frame 16 of channel section, Fig. 14, may be bolted to the sheets after erection, and adjustable vertical bars 17 may further be provided having pins at their lower ends which engage holes in the frames 16, the top ends being secured to the frame by bolts. The stanchions 1 are preferably wedged into iron sockets embedded in concrete, and together with the members 3 may be provided with an ornamental wooden casing. The sheets 10 are preferably waterproofed by a solution such as that known under the registered trade mark " Asbestine."
