By aerating ascending column.-In raising or circulating liquid by the air lift principle, the appropriate velocity of the liquid is maintained, when the volume of aerating medium is varied, by adjusting the area of the aerated column. Fig. 1 shows a construction used when the liquid is at the same time heated; the submerged burner a opens into an upstanding air lift pipe c arranged with an internal flared tube d. In this case, when small volumes of aerating medium are used the gases are confined to the internal tube. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which a plurality of internal flared tubes h are used; the liquid enters at j and the aerating medium at k and passes into a perforated bulb l. A further modification is described in which the aerating medium is led downwards through a central tube to the perforated bulb. Specifications 265,254 and 309,222 are referred to.
