Flues, internal; tubes, water.-A furnace flue tube b is cylindrical at the part where the grate c is situated and is formed behind the grate with two pairs of flat surfaces d, e, f, g, into which the ends of oppositely inclined water tubes j are expanded, curved parts h, i being left between flat surfaces at the top and bottom of the flue tube. Oppositely inclined rows of water tubes are arranged alternately along the flue, and the rows nearer the grate contain fewer tubes and are of larger diameter than the rows more remote from the grate.
