Abstract
339,283. Carpmael, A., (I, G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Aug. 30, 1929. 1 : 2 : 5 :6-Dibenzophenazine and its derivatives are made from 2-naphthylamine or its corresponding derivatives which contain a free 1-position by oxidation in a high boiling inert solvent with a metallic oxide, particularly cupric oxide. The products' from 2-naphthylamine and its 6-methyl, 6-bromo, 7-methoxy, 8-methoxy, 7-acetyl-amino, and 8-sulphonanilide derivatives on oxidation with cupric oxide are specified. The sulphonic acid derivatives are also made by the oxidation of the corresponding 2-naphthylamine sulphonic acid in aqueous solution with a metallic oxide. The products from the oxidation by means of manganese dioxide of the 7-sulphonic, 8-sulphonic, 5 : 7-disulphonic, 6 : 8-disulphonic, 3:6: 8-trisulphonic acid derivatives of 2-naphthylamine are specified. 6-Methyl-2-naphthylamine is obtained by treating 6-methyl-2-naphthol with ammonia under pressure. 2-Amino-8-naphtholmethylether and 2-amino-7- naphtholmethylether are obtained by alkylating the corresponding acetylaminonaphthols and the subsequent saponification of the acetyl group. Monoacetyl-2 : 7-diaminonaphthalene is obtained by monoacetylating 2 : 7-diamino-naphthalene. 2-Naphthylamine-6-sulphonanilide is obtained by acetylating 2-naphthylamine-6-sulphonic acid, treating the resulting product with phosphorus pentachloride and then with aniline. The acetyl group is then saponified off.
