Abstract

Anthraquinone dyes for wool are obtained by condensing 1-amino-4-halogenanthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid with an aromatic diamino-mono-sulphonic acid containing at least one primary amino group in aqueous solution with an acid-binding agent and copper catalyst. The products may be treated with feebly-acting alkaline reducing agents to remove the sulphonic group from the anthraquinone nucleus. According to examples diamino-monosulphonic acids specified are 4 : 41-diaminodiphenyl-3-sulphonic acid, 4 : 41-diaminodiphenylamine-2-sulphonic acid, 1-cyclohexylamino-4-aminobenzene-2-sulphonic acid. Sulphonic acids of phenylene diamines are also referred to. As a feeble alkaline reducing agent, sodium sulphide is mentioned. Alkyl-, aralkyl-, or cycloalkyl-phenylene diamine sulphonic acids are obtained by condensing a chloronitrobenzene sulphonic acid with an alkyl-, aralkyl-, or cyclo-alkylamine and reducing the nitro-group.
